Falling
The most common dream in the world, and almost never about fear of death. Falling is the feeling of losing control: something is slipping from your hands and you don't yet know what to hold onto. The dream usually ends by waking you — which is the answer itself: you don't hit the ground.

- Uncertainty
- Fear
Why do you wake up at the exact moment of the fall?
Because the body takes part. As you fall asleep your muscles release, and now and then the brain explains that as a real drop — which is when you jerk awake. The meaning still holds: the sudden waking mirrors the feeling that you'd rather not wait for the impact.
What does falling from a height or down stairs mean?
The height shows the size of the stake. Stumbling on stairs is fear of a small mistake — the kind others can see. Falling from a great height points instead to losing a position you'd grown used to: a job, a role, a relationship.
What does it mean to watch someone else fall?
Here you're usually not worried for yourself but for someone you can't help. The dream puts words to the helplessness you keep quiet about out of politeness. What matters is whether you reached for them: the gesture in the dream often precedes the real phone call.
What does it mean if you stay calm while falling?
This is the best version of the falling dream. It means a process has slipped out of your control, but you're no longer fighting it. People who fall calmly are usually past a letting-go, not before it.
What to ask yourself
The falling dream isn't a warning, it's a status report. The useful question is: what am I holding very tightly at the moment because I'm afraid of letting it go? The dream usually points straight at it.
