Major Arcana
The Devil
The Devil is a Major Arcana card of the tarot deck. Its keywords are: Bondage, Addiction, Materialism, Attachment. Read below what it says upright and reversed.
- Bondage
- Addiction
- Materialism
- Attachment
What does The Devil mean upright?
Attachment, dependency and the chains you have grown used to. Something is holding you — a habit, a person, a hunger for more — and the grip is tighter than you admit. Look honestly at what you cannot put down. The Devil's chains are loose: the card's whole lesson is that you can step out whenever you choose to see them.
What does The Devil mean reversed?
Breaking free, seeing the chain for what it is, reclaiming your own power. What held you is losing its hold, though the last stretch is the hardest. Keep going and don't bargain with what you already decided to leave. Freedom begins the moment the illusion breaks.
